PIBS 2021 is committed to sustainability and recycling by Adalmo

All waste generated during the nautical show is separated and recycled to protect the environment. The Balearic company Adalmo is responsible for offering this service to the organisation itself as well as to exhibitors and visitors.

Once again this year, the organisers of PIBS 2021 will be focusing on environmental protection and sustainability by setting up a separation and recycling service for all the waste generated during the four days of the Boat Show.

Therefore, once again this year, the Balearic waste management company Adalmo will be responsible for offering this service, which will consist of installing green points for collecting a selection of items for subsequent recycling. After glass, plastics are the second most abundant marine waste fraction in the Balearic Sea, with an average weight of approximately 3 kg/km² hence the eagerness of the organisation of the PIBS 2021 to recycle all the waste generated during the event.

Adalmo, an authorised manager of all types of waste, has been working towards environmental protection and conservation since 1967, and its experience and professionalism have positioned it as a benchmark in terms of integrated waste management and environmental services, thus contributing to the sustainable development of our islands and the circular economy. Adalmo is also responsible for scrapping unusable or disused boats, offering their destruction, prior decontamination and recycling to protect the environment and the health of the sea.

Please remember that this next edition of the Palma International Boat Show will take place between 03 and 06 June 2021 at Moll Vell. In fact, it will be the first trade show of the sector after the pandemic, and will inaugurate the nautical season.

Creation of the marine cluster, an example of good practices across Europe

The Balearic Marine Cluster development project, financed with ERDF funds and managed by the IDI (Business Innovation Institute), has been recognised by the Directorate General of European Funds of the Ministry of Finance.

The project for the development and implementation of the Balearic marine cluster financed by ERDF Funds has been considered as a Best Practice of the year 2020 by the Ministry of Finance, which marks the recognition of the work carried out by the Directorate General of Industry, through the IDI, responsible for the creation of the Balearic Marine Cluster.

Although the nautical cluster was founded in 2019, the process began a year earlier with an analysis of the nautical sector, considered a priority in the Industrial Plan due to its high specialisation, added value, growth potential and high industrial component. After a process carried out jointly with companies in the nautical sector, the Balearic Marine Cluster was presented with the aim of positioning the Balearic Islands as an industrial and business benchmark at an international level.

The Balearic Marine Clusteris an organisation consisting of thirty industrial companies linked to nautical tourism and entities that participate in the sector’s training and R&D activities. The cluster’s aims include making the Balearic Islands more visible internationally as a nautical industry centre; promoting the growth and strengthening the competitive position of the sector; increasing turnover, profitability and business community quality; and coordinating the sector’s value chain to increase its efficiency and productivity in the Balearic Islands.

The cluster currently has 43 associated companies and among the initiatives in which it has participated is the organisation of the first virtual boat show in the Balearic Islands, the Balearic Yacht Show. They are also working on various projects to boost the Balearic yachting industry: promotion of the destination through Balearic Yacht Destination; R+D+I with initiatives such as industrial waste circularity, carbon footprint reduction and electronic invoicing; training for the sector; and good practice and quality guides for refit companies.

The Balearic Marine Cluster was created as part of the industrial cluster development initiatives of the 2018- 2025 Industrial Plan and is promoted by the General Directorate of Industrial Policy. The objective is to relaunch a cluster strategy as a tool to increase competition, collaboration and informal links between companies and institutions in a given geographical environment, seeking to exploit the territory’s competitive advantages. The action is funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the 2014-2020 ERDF Balearic Island Operational Programme.

The Palma International Boat Show kicks off the nautical season

The show will be held from 3 to 6 June in Palma, following the pandemic that forced the suspension of the previous edition.

Boat Show Palma

Mallorca, and more specifically Palma, will be the focus of international nautical attention during the month of June, asit will be the setting for the first physical show to be held after more than a year of worldwide pandemic. After the cancellation of the 2020 edition, the next show will once again mark the start of the Mediterranean nautical season, and the economic reactivation of a sector considered strategic for the Balearic Islands’ industry.

The boat show is organised by the Institute for Business Innovation (IDI), headed by the Vice-Presidency and Regional Ministry of Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, as well by the Balearic Yacht Brokers Association (BYBA).

This year the Palma International Boat Show will have 227 exhibitors and more than 185 boats at sea, spread over morethan 80,000 square metres of exhibition space.

An offer that consolidates the PIBS as a preferred nautical destination

This year the show will feature new boats and nautical equipment from all over the world. Exhibitors will take advantage of the Palma event to present their offers in person after a few months in which communication has mainly taken place virtually. All the world’s market leaders will be represented at the exhibition, with many newproducts being presented for the first time at an international boat show. The PIBS will have direct representation from shipyards that have chosen the event to return to the international boat show circuit after the pandemic, helping to consolidate Palma as a preferred destination for recreational boating and the professional nautical industry.

Palma Superyacht Show

The area of the Palma Superyacht Show once again features an exhibition of superyachts with boats over 24 metres long. The Refit & Repair area, which stands out from the rest of the show as it is specifically intended for experts andprofessionals in the nautical industry, will also have an improved layout that will make it easier to locate the stands. The boat maintenance and repair area, now in its fourth year, will feature 24companies launching innovative products and services.

Reactivation of the nautical sector

This year’s Palma International Boat Show represents more than just a trade fair; it means reactivating, supporting and promoting one of the most important industrial sectors for Balearic economy. It must be taken into account that, according to the latest data, the sector has almost 2,000 companies in the Islands and 5,000 workers benefitting from social security. In addition, figures show that during the last quarter in Spain the Balearic Islands are again leading the market with 189 registrations, 20% more than the same period of the previous year.

A safe event

The boat show, which has been taking place for more than 35 years, is reinventing itself to offer exhibitors and visitors an event with all the benefits of direct contact, but also with all the health safety measures that COVID-19 obliges us to follow.

For people’s safety, the show will follow measures that include capacity control to avoid crowds on the premises, and temperature measurement of all persons entering the event. In addition, tickets and professional passes will only be sold online, on the Palma International Boat Show website. Inside, all visitors will be checked to ensure that they are wearing masks and that they comply with current health regulations.

Collaboration with the virtual Balearic YachtShow

One of the most outstanding new features of this year’s PalmaInternational Boat Show is the collaboration of the onsite show with the Balearic Yacht Show, the virtual nautical event that began during the confinement period and which will hold its second edition on the same dates as the PIBS. The Balearic Yacht Show (BYS) is organised by the Chamber of Com- merce of Mallorca and theBalearic Marine Cluster. This alliance will combine the on-site with the virtual format and have the first hybrid nautical event in the country, achieving greater promotion of the sector and nautical companies in the Balearic Islands.

This agreement increases PIBS’ commitment to digitalization through the BYS platform, which will complete the face-to-face offer of the Moll Viejo boat show. A highlight of the collaboration will be the expansion of the parallel activities that will be offered to exhibitors and professionals since the fact that they are online allows the organizers to better adapt to the COVID regulations.

To avoid crowds on the Boatshow the number of people who are visiting the fair at the same time is limited.

And the tickets – daily pass and professional pass – can only be bought online at Palma International Boat Show website. Inside, all persons will be checked to ensure that they are wearing masks and that they comply with current health regulations.

The Palma Boat Show recognises the humanitarian and maritime rescue work of the 'Cruz Roja del Mar'

The Managing Director of the IDI, Mariona Luis, awarded the organisation with the Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui award

The Red Cross of the Sea has been awarded with the Marcial Sánchez-Barcáiztegui Prize, which is presented every year during the Palma International Boat Show. The Managing Director of the IDI, Mariona Luis, awarded the trophy to the regional president of the Red Cross, Toni Barceló, this morning at the Moll Vell exhibition centre.

The award wants to recognise the humanitarian and maritime rescue work of the Red Cross of the Sea, which celebrates this year his 50 years anniversary. The Red Cross is also collaborating on the fair with volunteers and has an own exhibition stand to present the activities to visitors.

The Managing Director of the IDI, Mariona Luis, remembered that the award recognises since 2013 the work of people and institutions that are contributing to the promotion of the Balearic nautical sector. „This year we have an organisation with a special character and social importance, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Therefore, this award serves as recognition of the entire history of the Red Cross of the Sea and the humanitarian work carried out by its volunteers over the decades. This is an award for all the people who dedicate their time to making the sea a safer place.

"The Red Cross is proud to receive this award, as it highlights the 50 years we have been at sea saving lives and protecting the environment with our Maritime Rescue programme. Recognition like today's encourages us to continue with our commitment and humanitarian work," said Toni Barceló, president of the Red Cross in the Balearic Islands.

During 2020, nearly 2,000 people participated as Red Cross Volunteers in activities carried out in the Maritime Rescue Programme on the peninsula, in the archipelagos and autonomous cities. In addition, a total of 1,124 people were rescued because they were at risk of drowning, in need of medical assistance, or because they were the direct target of search operations.

After the ceremony to recognise the Red Cross of the Sea, the organisation carried out a sea rescue drill to show visitors how it's working.
